A letter left at the door of over 300 Lake County Community homes is how the “Feed The Lake Campaign” came to fruition. The 17-year-old daughter of the president of Cornerstone Housing, Aliyah, was the driving force behind this food drive. With the assistance of six volunteers and a rental donation of two full size vans, they were able to completely fill both vans with donations of canned non-perishable food.
They then delivered all this food to three area food banks to distribute to people and families who needed assistance with food. Aliyah stated that she saw many of her friends and parents who were having problems with economic uncertainty and hunger and felt this was one way to bring people that had to ones that had not.
